     According to the New York Post, Derek Jeter has made the 1st cut for team USA.The provisional roster also includes Dustin Pedroia & Kevin Youkilis, who could join him in the starting infield. That makes it pretty interesting. There are forty-three players on the current provisional roster. The roster will be cut to 28 players by the end of February, and it must include 13 pitchers and two catchers.

     The 2009 Provisional World Baseball Classic rosters were revealed earlier today on the MLB Network. The Yankees have 13 participants in the tournament.

The 13 players that will represent the Yankees in the WBC: 

USA:SS Derek Jeter

Dominican Republic: 3B Alex Rodriguez, 2B Robinson Cano, CF Melky Cabrera, RP Edwar Ramirez, RP Jose Veras, RP Damaso Marte

Mexico: SP Al Aceves, 1B Jorge Vazquez

Italy: C Francisco Cervelli

China: SP Kai Lui, C Zhenwang Zhang

Panama: OF Jahdiel Santamaria

     The WBC provisional rosters will be released at 6PM ET today. It will mark 45 days until the tournament starts on March 5th. The 16 team rosters (up to 28 players) will need to be finalized by Feb. 24. Over 600 players made requests for filling in the rosters this year, but there is a maximum of 448 spots.

      The same teams that participated in ’06, will be in this years tournament. (Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, SouthAfrica, the U.S. and Venezuela) The contest’s brackets will be different though. These games will be played in seven different locations in 4 different countries/territiories. The first game of the tournament will showcase China against the defending champions..Japan in the Tokyo Dome on March 5th. Team USA will start out against Canada on March 7th at Rogers Centre.

The finals will begin on March 23rd at Dodger Stadium.

Tickets for first-round games in Toronto and San Juan, Puerto Rico, second-round games in Miami and San Diego, and the semifinals and finals in Los Angeles go on sale on Monday. First-round games in Tokyo go on sale on Jan. 31, and first-round games in Mexico City go on sale on Feb. 10.
