Dellin Betances went (W-L, 2-5) last season, while posting a 5.48ERA with the Tampa Yankees. After tossing only 44.1 innings last year, his season was derailed by a season-ending injury. What was originally reported as Tommy John surgery, turned out to be a ligament-strengthening surgery. His season was over with the blink of an eye.

He lost the chance to add more of a workload under his belt, and many scouts and experts dropped him on their top prospect lists after he struggled last year.

Entering this season, he came out of the gate with all guns blazing. He’s cut down on his walks (which was a big issue for him), his strikeout rate is up, and he’s pitching to a WHIP of 0.85. In his last 10 outings of the season, he’s gone (W-L, 6-1) with a 2.02ERA, with 61K’s in 49IP. I think it’s fair to say that Dellin’s answering the critics. His “Big Unit” type of frame (6’8″) and scorching fastball has many fans anticipating his debut in pinstripes.
