The guys on the YES Network and a bunch of the beat writers just reported that Andy Pettitte was forced to leave early with a strained left groin. This is not exactly what we wanted to hear today. That’s two days in a row, where the starter got pulled in the 3rd inning due to injury. I don’t exactly know where they go from here, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be making his next start. We don’t know how severe the injury is just yet, but a DL stint is a possibility.

Update: 3:15PM ET: Let’s not forget teammate, Curtis Granderson, had a Grade II left groin strain and was on the DL for about a month. At Andy’s age, I think it would take longer to heal. Still no word on how serious the injury is.

Update: 5:07PM ET: From Peter Botte: Girardi on Pettitte: “He’s probably headed to the DL. (Grade 1 strain).”
