The Yankees announced that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will throw out the ceremonial first pitch today. She has been called, “the judge who saved baseball” after she issued an order that helped end the MLB strike of 1994-95. Sonia is a Bronx native, and a lifelong Yankees fan.

The Yankees are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and will host an on-field presentation of their annual Hispanic Heritage Month Community Achievement Awards prior to the Royals game on Monday night.

“Having Justice Sotomayor, a South Bronx native, participate in our yearly Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is very exciting, as she is an inspiration to so many,” said Manuel GarcĂ­a, the Yankees’ director of Latino affairs. “We are proud to welcome her and President Martinelli to our new home.
