A.J. Burnett #34 Of The New York Yankees Reacts

The Pitching:

The top four pitchers in the Yankees rotation have been almost untouchable this season, so a poor start was bound to happen. It just so happened to be A.J. Burnett, who has been completely torn apart at Fenway Park since putting ont he pinstripes. A.J. only went 4 1/3 innings, allow 9 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits. It was hard to watch. His pitching line was: (L, 4-1) 4.1IP 9H 9R 8ER 3BB 4K (97 Pitches, 54 for Strikes).

Romulo Sanchez was recently called up to the majors, and he saw plenty of action last night. He took the mop up role, but did a great job. He tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing only one hit and struck out 3 batters.

The Offense:

Alex Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the third inning, which broke a 61 at-bat home run drought. It was his 586th home run of his career, which tied him for seventh place on baseball’s all-time list with Frank Robinson. Nick Swisher went 2-for-4 on the game, picking up a run and an RBI. Robbie Cano went 2-for-4 and knocked in an RBI.

————————————————

Joe Girardi was ejected after the top of the 4th inning, when he argued a third strike call on Marcus Thames. Home-plate umpire, Tim McClelland, wouldn’t stand for that and tossed him. You can’t argue balls and strikes..it just doesn’t work.
