Helping a hall of fame baseball player get a present to the president.

Since President Obama is vacationing locally on the vineyard we’re trying to help our friend, Tom Murro (aka The Celebrity Magnet) deliver a present for Hall Of Famer Yogi Berra. Here’s the story…

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (7/29/10) — Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra has met every sitting U.S. president since 1945 – except for Barack Obama.

He has, however, met first lady Michelle Obama, and the Yankees did send him a ceremonial throw out ball signed by the president. But to date, he has not had the opportunity to shake hands with the Commander in Chief.

Mr. Berra is just one of the many interesting celebs I have encountered. When Berra learned of my chance meeting in 2009 with President Barack Obama (pictured above), he agreed to sign a photo for the President and I have since been trying to get that picture to him.

With little luck, I might add.

The photo is a classic shot of a sliding Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers safe after stealing home against Berra and the Yankees during the World Series opening game at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 28, 1955.

Calling Robinson safe led to the Dodger’s victory.

A very difficult defeat for any team.

Well, Berra has had a different perspective in regard to that call, so he signed the photo,

”Dear Mr. President, He was out! ”

So I have done everything I can to get the photo to the president.

The White House cannot guarantee if I mail it, or even special deliver the photo, that it will make it to the president’s hands. And, without a reoccurrence of the happenstance meeting of Mr. Obama with my daughter and me last year on Martha’s Vineyard, I am at a loss on how to deliver Mr. Berra’s gift.

Needless to say, the photo sits on my desk and I keep hoping for a good idea while watching for the president’s return to Martha’s Vineyard in hopes we might reconnect.

In the meantime, if you have any ideas on how to get this photo into the president’s hands, let me know.

Tom is planning to try and deliver the photo to President Obama on the Vineyard this weekend.
