Before the All-Star Game, Phil Hughes’ parents gave a tour of their house..sort of like the show, MTV Cribs. Take a look. 

I love this part of the article:

When the 23rd pick arrived, the Yankees called. They knew that Hughes had grown up a Red Sox fan because of his father. They wanted to know if Hughes would sign with them, if he was fully committed to being a Yankee if he thought he could go after Boston in a big game. And would he sign for slot money? The answers were yes, yes and yes.

Hughes signed for $1.4 million and, now six years later, he is an All-Star as a Yankee and his dad is no longer a Red Sox fan.

“Nick Swisher will compete in HR Derby.”

I guess the Yankees aren’t worried about Swisher’s swing..only Cano’s. Chris Young was also a late addition to the contest, according to Chad Jennings. This will be the Yankees first representative in the derby since Jason Giambi competed back in 2003. Now, Yankees fans will have a reason to tune in.

Update: 7:30PM ET: According to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News, Swisher contacted Girardi, Long and Cashman before afreeing to participate in the derby.

Girardi names his All-Star Game coaches Girardi has tabbed Angels manager Mike Scioscia and Athletics skipper Bob Geren as his coaches for the game, which will be played on July 13 at Angel Stadium. Girardi’s Yankees coaches — pitching coach Dave Eiland, bullpen coach Mike Harkey, first-base coach Mick Kelleher, hitting coach Kevin Long, bench coach Tony Pena and third-base coach Rob Thomson — are all headed to Anaheim as well.

Former Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu arrested on suspicion of DUI “Former Major League Baseball pitcher Hideki Irabu, a one-time rising star from Japan, was arrested in Gardena for allegedly driving while intoxicated, police said Monday.”

Don’t even think about bringing your iPad to a Yankee game “Actually, they won’t let anyone bring their cool new toy through the gates. I called over to the Yankees’ security department to confirm this story and was told that the ban is true. All iPads fall under the “no laptops” rule in its existing security policy and are not allowed at Yankee Stadium.”
