RE2PECT.

Michael Jordan’s brand and Nike and have teamed up to launch the “RE2PECT” campaign in honor of Derek’s last season.

Via DefPanRadio.com:

“After 19 seasons, Derek Jeter announced in February that the 2014 season will be his last. Widely recognized as one of the greatest ball players of all time, Jeter has led a storied and decorated career, with five championships, 13 All-Star appearances and enough individual awards to fill numerous trophy cases.

Although Jeter has become synonymous with his team over the past two decades, he transcends traditional rivalries and team loyalties. While No. 2 is known for his brilliant on-field performances, he’s always matched that with a quiet confidence, relentless focus, and deep respect for those he competes against. To celebrate Jeter, the mark he’s left on the game, and his relationship with the brand, the Jordan Brand kicks off the RE2PECT campaign. Baseball fans around the world can participate and share their support for Jeter throughout the season by tagging social media posts with #RE2PECT.

—————————–

Jeter—handpicked by Michael Jordan in 1999—was the first Jordan Brand-endorsed baseball athlete. Outside of Jordan himself, Jeter is the longest-tenured signature athlete for the brand, and has been a great example to subsequent members of the Jordan Brand family.

“Derek is everything we hope for in a member of the Jordan Brand family,” said Jordan. “He’s the ultimate professional, dedicated to hard work, and driven by a desire to be the best. In short, he embodies all the key attributes of the brand.”

At the beginning of the partnership, Jeter was a rising star, and the Jordan Brand, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Nike in 1997, was on a similar trajectory to establish itself as a major player in the world of sport. There were only a small handful of athletes associated with the brand, and Jordan stressed that his vision was to select a group of athletes comprising what the brand now describes as “the family.”

“We want there to be a mystique connected to being part of the Jordan Brand,”Jordan said. “Not something everybody will be involved with.”Today, although the family has grown, it maintains the same close-knit feeling Jordan envisioned when the brand was in its early days.”

You can by RE2PECT tees to support Jeter, which can be found at at Nike.com and Footaction.com, Flight 23 at Footaction and Niketown New York starting tomorrow.

The shirt is entitled: “Tedsicicle.” A joke on the Red Sox and the Williams family, as they decided to freeze the corpse of Teddy Ballgame years ago.

The new t-shirt will be available before tomorrow’s game outside Yankee Stadium. Vinny will be on River Avenue, outside Billy’s Bar..in his usual spot. The shirt costs $15 (AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER. SHIRT WILL SHIP ON 4/1). The same artist (Craig Mahoney) who did that Phil Hughes painting for me did the artwork on this shirt. Major props to Vinny on this clever design.

Well-known sports author, Les Krantz, has come out with a new book entitled: Yankee Classics: World Series Magic from the Bronx Bombers -1921 to Today-. This is really a one-of-a-kind book, as it delves inside each World Series the Yankees played in. The design of the book, and the pictures inside will blow you away. They also include a DVD, which is narrated by Yankee great, Reggie Jackson. This book would be a great gift for any Yankees fan.

Editorial Review:

No team, in any sport, enjoys a championship legacy as celebrated as the New York Yankees—and no book provides as thorough an exploration of that legacy as Yankee Classics. With year-by-year recaps filled with stories and photos, the book goes through all 40 World Series the Yankees have participated in, including the seven-game classics and the four-game cakewalks. Profiles of the biggest stars of the Fall Classic—from Ruth and Gehrig, to Berra and Mantle, to Jeter and Rivera—and detailed sidebars on the memorable moments, the October rivalries, and the lesser-known heroes round out this comprehensive look at an unprecedented sports success story.

Sabathia & Berra lend their voices to ‘Henry & Me’ C.C. Sabathia, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, Alex Rodriguez, as well as other Yankees players, recorded parts for the upcoming movie, ‘Henry & Me.’ “Their message to the sick child “Jack,” the “Me” in the story: You can do it, kid. Just keep telling yourself you can, and you will.”

Ron Guidry and the Beach Boys:Guidry played the drums when he was with the Yankees, and he was skilled enough to perform once with the Beach Boys as a drummer in a post-game concert. But playing the drums also benefited Guidry’s pitching.”

“I kept a set of drums at Yankee Stadium for one reason,” said Guidry. “Playing the drums kept my wrists very strong, and a strong left wrist allowed me to throw my slider more effectively.”

Yankees and  Jay-Z team up on co-branded merchandise. From the AP: “The hip-hop mogul is teaming up with his favorite baseball squad on co-branded clothes that will be sold exclusively at Yankee Stadium beginning next week. All the items, from baseball caps to T-shirts and hooded sweat shirts, will feature Yankees and Jay-Z logos. In a news release Thursday, the Yankees said the attire was created to commemorate the first official concerts at the new Yankee Stadium on Sept. 13 and 14, when Jay-Z and Eminem will co-headline.”

A few weeks ago, I passed along an image of the 2010 World Series logo. Now, Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net has released  a collection of all the patches that will be used for this years Postseason (ALDS, ALCS, WS). I think they look great.

I just stumbled across the new 2010 World Series logo, and once again, I think the league has done a fantastic job designing the new patch. Let’s all hope the New York Yankees have these patches on the side of their hats come late October. What do you guys think of it? Is it better than last year’s? (more…)

I like a Yankees fitted hat as much as the next guy, but now I find it hard to even keep up with obtaining them.

First it was the move to the new cool base hats, next was the All-Star Game patch, after that came the Inaugural Season patch, than they had those Stars and Stripes hats, and finally the World Series Cap. There’s also the Divison, ALCS, and WS clubhouse hats that everyone went crazy for. And now we have another one to add to the list: the 27-time WS Champs hat.

The New York Yankees recently released an Authentic Game Performance 59FIFTY Cap w/27 Time World Series Champs Patch. It actually looks like a pretty nice hat, but it’s quite annoying to keep up with this constant outpouring of them and drop down $35.99.
