- Burnett is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in five career starts against the Mariners. He’s only allowed one home run and struck out 34 batters in 33 innings during that span.
- The Yankees are 4-3 against the Mariners this season and have outscored them, 26-24. Going back further, they’ve beaten Seattle in 19 of their last 28 games and are 32-20 since the start of the 2005 season.
- With a strikeout of Ramon Santiago in the seventh inning on Wednesday, Yankees new reliever Kerry Wood notched his 1,500th strikeout. Wood needed 1,303 innings to reach the feat, which is the fewest in Major League history, surpassing Pedro Martinez, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
- The Yankees placed Lance Berkman on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle on Thursday, and infielder Eduardo Nunez was called up.
- Alex Rodriguez missed his third consecutive game as he recovers from a tight left calf.
