News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- Derek Jeter is enjoying an August renaissance for the Yankees, hitting safely in 12 of his last 15 games. Jeter is the first Yankee to be the game’s active hit leader since Johnny Mize in 1952, but he’s not standing on ceremony alone. Jeter ranks second among all Major League leadoff men with 51 RBIs this season.
- Barring injury, Jeter should reach the exclusive 3,000-hit club at some point next season, but he’s already distinguished himself several times over with his franchise. The Yankees captain is his team’s all-time leader in hits (2,883), second in stolen bases (317), doubles (461) and games (2,206), and he’s also fourth in runs scored (1,658).
- The Yankees have a Major League-high 36 comeback victories this season, a trend that includes nine of their last 15 wins.
- The Yankees are 61-0 when leading after eight innings, the best record in the Majors. Kansas City and Oakland are the only other teams who have yet to lose under those circumstances.
- When New York returns home from this road trip on Sunday night, it will play 17 of its next 23 games at Yankee Stadium.
The game will take place at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. It’s slated to start at 7:10PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880.
