News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- Alex Rodriguez was a late scratch from Saturday’s game after being hit in the left shin by a Lance Berkman liner during batting practice, and it doesn’t sound promising for him to return for Sunday’s game. A Yankees spokesman said Rodriguez’s leg was swollen and being iced after the incident, which sent A-Rod to the ground. Berkman, acquired just before the July 31 Trade Deadline, felt bad, but accidents happen. “I clearly didn’t mean to,” Berkman said. “It wasn’t like I was trying to hit him in the teeth and missed low or something like that.”
- Derek Jeter went hitless Saturday, so he remains tied with Babe Ruth for 39th on the all-time hits list with 2,873.
- The Yankees remain one of only two teams in baseball that has yet to lose more than three consecutive games this season. The Rays dropped off that list Saturday with their loss in Toronto. The only other team that has yet to lose four in a row is the Padres.
The game will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. It’s slated to start at 8:00PM ET. The game is being televised on ESPN. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880.
