News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- Third baseman Alex Rodriguez heads into this series poised to become just the seventh player in big league history to reach 600 home runs. He’s gone 10 games since hitting No. 599, and he got a bit of a rest in Sunday’s defeat. Rodriguez didn’t start in that game, but he came on late and struck out as a pinch-hitter.
- Austin Kearns went 3-for-9 in three games against the Yankees last week, and then he went 0-for-2 in his New York debut on Sunday. Lance Berkman has also gotten off to a slow start with his new club, going just 1-for-8 since arriving with the Yankees. Reliever Kerry Wood also debuted on Sunday, giving the Yankees an inning of scoreless relief.
- The Yankees have risen to 29 games above .500 twice this season but have lost both times.
- New York has been in first place in the AL East since June 20.
- Jays second baseman Aaron Hill hit his 15th home run on Sunday and is now batting .206 for the season.
- The Yankees are now 11-18 when they don’t homer and 55-20 when they do.
- New York lefty Andy Pettitte may be able to throw a bullpen session soon in his recovery from a left groin strain that forced him to the disabled list.
The game will take place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It’s slated to start at 7:05PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880.
