News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- It was a big news day in the bullpen Saturday, as Damaso Marte was put on the 15-day disabled list before the game, Sergio Mitre got closer to returning and the relief corps had to pick up seven innings. With A.J. Burnett’s hand injury cutting his Saturday start short, the spotlight was on the bullpen again, and Dustin Moseley and Chad Gaudin took the remainder of his outing, allowing six of the 10 runs over seven innings. In the bigger picture, losing Marte is a tough blow the Yankees hope lasts no longer than two or three weeks. “He neutralizes lefties better than most in the game,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “He’s an important piece.” Mitre, meanwhile, threw a successful side session, and will be activated in the next few days.
- With Friday’s victory, the Yankees have won their first game coming out of the All-Star break for nine consecutive years, which, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, ties the Montreal Expos (1984-1992) and the Yankees of 1940-49 (no All-Star Game in ’45) for the longest such streak in history.
The game will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. It’s slated to start at 1:05PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network and TBS. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880. Enjoy the game. Go Yankees!
