Bill Lee is as classless as they get. Maybe he had a reason to dislike George Steinbrenner, but that statement he made was totally uncalled for. The guys on PTI spoke about it
He claims that he liked Steinbrenner, but said this: “We need to stop deifying this man. He never played first base. He was the owner of the Yankees, and he was a good guy, but that’s it.” To many Yankees fans, he was much more than a great owner. He changed the game of baseball forever, and brought the franchise back to life. Not only did he bring them to the forefront, but he built an empire out of it.
What does race have anything to do with Steinbrenner? I just don’t get it. Limbaugh’s Reasoning.
- George Steinbrenner changed the lives of 3 Long Islanders
- Statement from the Berra family
- Pregame notes: Marte to the DL, replaced by Logan
- Injury Updates: Mitre, Aceves, Johnson
- Burnett leaves game with ‘lacerations’ on his throwing hand
- McAllister roughed up in SWB loss
- Rays pound Yanks on Old Timer’s Day
- Old-Timers’ Day: Reggie: “I’d rather not be here today.”
- Yankees pay tribute to Sheppard
I sent a letter to Steinbrenner a few years back, and he returned my ball signed:
All those three guys are idiots for what they said. For Lee and Limbaugh, it’s all for show, especially the latter. It doesn’t matter what they say, though, because we all know what a truly great and dedicated person and owner George Michael Steinbrenner III was. God bless and R.I.P. Boss.

Heres Rush explaining it all. Didn’t mean anything bad about Steinbrenner was actually saying good things about him, or at least meant to.
Without reading Limbaugh’s explanation I can tell you what he meant (I’m not a Limbaugh listener or supporter, btw. Neither am I a liberal). He was merely pointing out that contrary to all the recent bullshit coming from the New Black Panthers, the NAACP, etc. here was George Steinbrenner, a white “cracker”, who made many a black man rich. He wasn’t knocking George, he was knocking those assholes from black organizations still crying about the white man holding them down. That’s my take. And like I said, I could care less about Rush Limbaugh so I’m not defending him just to defend him.
