News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- His .219 batting average entering Friday in July leaves much to be desired from third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Still, the Yankees star has found ways to contribute, albeit in areas that don’t necessarily light up the statistics sheet. But even in an offensive slump of sorts, the potent slugger has stepped up when it has been needed most at the plate. He had a grand slam against the A’s on Tuesday — part of a two-homer game — along with an important two-run single on Thursday against the Mariners. His manager, Joe Girardi, certainly appreciates Rodriguez’s talents. “I’ve been pleased,” Girardi said on Friday. “He’s had big RBIs for us. He had the grand slam. He had the two big RBIs last night. Baserunning was outstanding in the eighth inning. It really set up the run for us. I mean, he is a complete player. He’s been great.”
- The Yankees have three 11-game winners before the All-Star break.
- Going into Friday, Franklin Gutierrez ranked fifth with a .345 batting average, (29-for-84), among active players — with a minimum of 75 at-bats — against the Yankees.
The game will take place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. It’s slated to start at 10:10PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880. Enjoy the game. Go Yankees!
