News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- Two days after being named to the AL All-Star team, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is pulling out. The veteran right-hander said he has been battling tightness in his left side while fighting a right knee injury that he suffered against the Dodgers last month.
- “I’ve been pitching hurt,” Rivera said. “I know they are going to use me. I’d prefer to take those days off before the second half. “It’s hard — it’s a decision that I have to make for myself and the sake of the team. It’s a great honor, but I have to be wise.”
- Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano agreed to participate in the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby, to be held next Monday night.
- The Yankees lead the AL with 24 come-from-behind victories this season and trail only the Reds (26) for the Major League lead. New York led the Majors with 51 come-from-behind wins last year.
The game will take place at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California. It’s slated to start at 10:05PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880. Enjoy the game. Go Yankees!
