News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- The Yankees replaced Boone Logan with Dustin Moseley prior to Friday’s game — mainly because of an upcoming opt-out clause in his contract — and manager Joe Girardi is still seeking a spark from a bullpen that ranked seventh in the AL in ERA (4.07) before yielding five runs in the 11th inning on Friday.
- “You try to put them in situations to be successful,” the Yanks’ skipper said prior to Friday’s game. “You’ve got to keep the work as consistent as possible. There are times where our starters have pitched a lot and our bullpen hasn’t gotten consistent work, and that can affect a bullpen as well. Rest is important for a bullpen, but too much rest can be counterproductive. And that has happened sometimes.”
- Fifty-nine years ago on Friday, Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio hit a three-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 45 games and surpass Willie Keeler’s single-season mark of 44, set in 1897. DiMaggio, of course, reached 56 consecutive games in 1941 and still holds the record.
The game will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. It’s slated to start at 1:05PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880. En1oy the game. Go Yankees!
