News and Notes (Courtesy of MLB.com):
- Burnett has had his own problems with the home run, giving up nine in his last five starts. The 33-year-old completed at least six innings in 10 of his first 13 starts, but he hasn’t been able to go more than four innings in his past three outings. Burnett had a similar streak last August — in which he went 0-4 with a 6.03 ERA — but rebounded to pitch well in September.
- “This is not something A.J. hasn’t been through before and had to fight out of,” said Joe Girardi, New York’s manager. “We’ve talked about fighting your way out. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s easy to climb your way out of a hole. But it can be as simple as getting a big out. … Hopefully, tomorrow is the start of a run of great starts.”
- Lyle Overbay notched the 1,000th hit of his career on Wednesday night.
- Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano are two of the six players in the big leagues that have started all of their team’s games this season.
- Derek Jeter has gone 15 straight games without driving in a run, the longest skid of his career.
- Toronto outhomered its opponents 89-37 in April and May.
- Vernon Wells has five multi-hit games in his past 10 starts and is batting .324 (12-for-37) with three home runs over that span.
The game will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. It’s slated to start at 1:05PM ET. The game is being televised on the YES Network. The game can also be heard on the radio on WCBS 880. En1oy the game. Go Yankees!
