The Pitching:
C.C. Sabathia didn’t have his best stuff today, and wound up pitching a complete game. That alone, tells you how big a contributor this guy is to the team. Complete games are not as common as they once were, and to get one when you aren’t at your best is even more impressive.
Sabathia had this to say about his stuff: “I was all over the place, really,” Sabathia said. “I had no command of anything. My changeup was decent, and that was the only thing that really kept me in the game. I just tried to battle. I still was all over the place and getting behind guys, and I just tried to make pitches when I needed to.”
C.C.’s pitching line was: (L, 2-1) CG, 8.0IP 4H 4R 3ER 6BB 5K (97 Pitches, 51 for Strikes)
The Yankees turned a 5-4-3 triple play (started by A-Rod) in the bottom of the 6th inning to get Sabathia out of a jam. It was the first triple play I ever witnessed by the Yankees, as it was the first one they got in the past 42 years. Hard to believe. You can watch it here.
The Offense:
Marcus Thames hit home run in the 5th inning to put the team’s first run on the board. In the 6th inning, Mark Teixeira also hit a solo homer. Those were the only two runs the Yankees scored on the game. A-Rod, Cano and Swisher all went 1-for-4.
