Posada Officially Announces Retirement: “I will forever be a Yankee.”

Jorge Posada’s retirement press conference was quite emotionally stirring. It’s not often a player wears one uniform for their entire career. Posada put up phenomenal numbers in the most demanding position on the field and served as a great vocal leader for the franchise. He wore his heart on his sleeve and will rank with some of the greats to ever put on the Yankee pinstripes.

Posada stated that he grew up in front of the fans. The said can be said about myself. When Posada got the call up in 1995, I was 4 years-old. Seventeen years later, Posada is hanging ‘em up and here stands a 20 year-old Yankees fan. It’s hard to believe.

“Playing for the Yankees has been an honor — I could never have worn another uniform,” Posada said.

Jeter sends one-night stands home with his own John Hancock

Oh, Derek! The New York Post is reporting this morning that Derek Jeter sends his one-night stands home with gift baskets, which usually include an autographed baseball. This doesn’t sound like “The Captain”…does it? I wonder what Dr. Charles Jeter thinks about all of this.

Jeter is playing the field once again, as he broke up with Minka Kelly this past summer. Here are some highlights from the article:

“This summer, he ended up hooking up with a girl who he had hooked up with once before, but Jeter seemed to have forgotten about the first time and gave her the same identical parting gift, a gift basket with a signed Derek Jeter baseball,” the pal said. “He basically gave her the same gift twice because he’d forgotten hooking up with her the first time!”

“He normally doesn’t go out with girls. He will have them come to his house. He’ll have cocktail parties. His friends invite girls they think he’ll be interested in. He’s very shy,” another friend explained. “He’ll occasionally take girls to a restaurant. He has a couple of restaurants that he goes to that aren’t trendy,” the friend said.

“I know he’s been dating multiple girls. He likes a hole in the wall, or he likes a place that his friends own. He’s very cautious. He’ll only go out on off-nights,” the friend said.

“The girls go through the back-door entrance in the Trump World Tower to avoid the paparazzi,” the pal said.

C.J. Wilson Rumblings

Cashman has reached out to Wilson’s agent. He will definitely be a pitcher that will be highly sought after in the off season. Wilson just came off a great regular season winning 16 games with a 2.97 ERA. Despite the great regular season, he was 0-3 in 5 postseason starts with a 5.79 ERA.

The Yankees are in dire need of good starting pitching for next year, but would Wilson be able to handle the NY spotlight? If a player cannot perform in the postseason then that should be a red flag to the Yanks front office.

Cashman Cashes In

The Yankees and Brian Cashman have agreed to a 3-year/$9M contract.

Next season will be his 15th year as GM of the organization. That says a lot about what they think of him.

There was so much talk about Sabathia leaving New York after the Division Series. I think it was all drummed up by the media and had absolutely no truth to it. Either way, the Yankees were not taking any chances and extended Sabathia’s deal.

He had $92M and 4 years left on his contract. Now there are 5 more years for $122M with an option for a 6th year if CC stays healthy (for another $20,000,000+).

He’s compiled a (W-L) 59-23 record in 3 seasons with the team. The Yankees pitching staff is already thin and without Sabathia, the team wouldn’t be a contender. Let’s hope to see another six good years out of this guy.
