From the NY Post’s Page Six:

One source told us: “Derek likes to keep his relationships quiet. In the past, when his girlfriends become famous and start doing sexy shoots, that’s when they break up. Exactly the same thing happened with Minka and Vanessa Minnillo.”

Another source said, “Derek and Hannah broke up a few months ago. She wasn’t at his Celebrity Golf Classic last month. He is in Tampa and is completely focused on being fit and ready for the upcoming baseball season.”

So, Derek Jeter doesn’t like his girlfriends to get “too famous.” That’s understandable. But why date some of the biggest and brightest of them all? Yeah, we get it…Hannah Davis is gorgeous. But if he wants to take his relationship to the next level..maybe he should stop going after the biggest Hollywood stars. Let’s take a trip down memory lane: Minka Kelly, Lara Dutta, Rachel Uchitel, Mariah Carey, Vida Guerra, Vanessa Minnillo, Jordana Brewster, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Adriana Lima, Joy Enriquez, Scarlett Johansson, Tyra Banks and  Gabrielle Union.

Hannah might very well be announced as the 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover model in the issue coming weeks…not that Jeter cares. I’m sure he won’t have trouble finding another lady friend. Good luck, Derek.

It’s just amazing how these stories come about. One can simply release a doctored photo of the Yankees captain to the media and everybody eats it up. Did anyone actually believe that “The Derek Jeter” would lose himself like that? If there is one guy in this league who you can count on to act in a professional way, he would be the one. If you really believed that photo was real, I wouldn’t be placing any bets anytime soon. But if you knew from the get-go, I would go hop on over to The Sports Geek. It took Harold Reynolds to set the record straight once and for all with this photo:

Derek Jeter Infielder Derek Jeter #2 of the New York Yankees warms up just prior to the start of the Grapefruit League Spring Training Game against the Baltimore Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium on March 7, 2011 in Sarasota, Florida.

Oh, Derek! The New York Post is reporting this morning that Derek Jeter sends his one-night stands home with gift baskets, which usually include an autographed baseball. This doesn’t sound like “The Captain”…does it? I wonder what Dr. Charles Jeter thinks about all of this.

Jeter is playing the field once again, as he broke up with Minka Kelly this past summer. Here are some highlights from the article:

“This summer, he ended up hooking up with a girl who he had hooked up with once before, but Jeter seemed to have forgotten about the first time and gave her the same identical parting gift, a gift basket with a signed Derek Jeter baseball,” the pal said. “He basically gave her the same gift twice because he’d forgotten hooking up with her the first time!”

“He normally doesn’t go out with girls. He will have them come to his house. He’ll have cocktail parties. His friends invite girls they think he’ll be interested in. He’s very shy,” another friend explained. “He’ll occasionally take girls to a restaurant. He has a couple of restaurants that he goes to that aren’t trendy,” the friend said.

“I know he’s been dating multiple girls. He likes a hole in the wall, or he likes a place that his friends own. He’s very cautious. He’ll only go out on off-nights,” the friend said.

“The girls go through the back-door entrance in the Trump World Tower to avoid the paparazzi,” the pal said.

From JustJared:

Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly have called it quits after three years together, JustJared.com can confirm.

“The split was amicable,” sources exclusively tell JJ of the 37-year-old Yankees superstar and 31-year-old actress. “But they remain friends. They still really care for each other.”

When JJ contacted her reps, they did confirm the split.

Last month, HBO premiered Deter Jeter 3K, a documentary that chronicles Derek’s journey of becoming the second player to reach 3,000 hits as a shortstop (the first was Honus Wagner).

I can’t say I saw this coming. Minka’s appearances in Derek’s box and DJ3K HBO special, you wouldn’t have any clue that the two were thinking about parting ways. All that talk that he would eventually marry her and that he was “ready to tie the knot” (remember all that talk about Oheka Castle?) all goes out the window now. So, Derek…whose next?

Derek Jeter will don the cover of April’s GQ Magazine, which is set to hit newsstands on March 22nd. The article on The Captain is entitled: “Derek Jeter’s Swinging Years.”

“Derek Jeter is not a victory robot. He knows his last season was rough. And yeah, he’s pissed at the Yankees about that contract negotiation. The most famous player in baseball sat down with Seth Mnookin to talk his private life, the press, and the specter of his final years in pinstripes.”

“We’ve talked about my story-I’m very fortunate to be doing exactly what I want to do for the team I’ve always wanted to play for, playing the position I’ve always wanted to play. You talk about living a dream or someone living a dream-if I went back thirty years ago and someone told me, ‘Sit down and write out what your dream would be to do,’ I’d be sitting right here.” -Derek Jeter (more…)

NO ONE'S LOOKING AT YOU, MIKE! Merlyweds Michael Kay and his much, MUCH better half, Channel 11 news anchor Jodi Applegate, at their gala wedding last night at The Plaza.  'I DO': Rudy Giuliani makes the happy couple husband and wife.

The long anticipated Michael Kay wedding. Let the jokes roll in.

From the NY Post:

Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay and TV news anchor Jodi Applegate tied the knot at The Plaza last night in a lavish ceremony packed with pinstripe powerhouses and skippered by former Mayor and Bronx Bombers die-hard Rudy Giuliani.

Several former Yankee greats such as Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez and Darryl Strawberry, were among the 350 guests who turned out to watch the lovebirds exchange vows at the storied hotel shortly after twilight.

“It’s a great day for Michael Kay,” Strawberry told The Post. “He waited this long for the right one. It’s amazing.”

Baseball bigs, including Yanks manager Joe Girardi and team co-owner Hal Steinbrenner rubbed elbows with TV personalities such as NBC anchor Brian Williams and Applegate’s WPIX/Channel 11 colleagues Kaity Tong and weatherman Mr. G.

And actor Danny Aiello, Kay’s uncle, was on hand to fete the happy couple as were former Yanks and Kay’s YES-network colleagues Al Leiter, David Cone and John Flaherty.

The president of Fordham University, Kay’s alma mater, gave the benediction before a grinning Giuliani took the helm.

Applegate donned a white empire lace dress designed by Suzanne Neville from the Wedding Atelier bridal boutique. She changed her dress three more times throughout the night, a guest said.

The auburn-haired stunner also sported sparkly, 14-carat diamond earrings on loan from London Jewelry, and custom silk gloves, silk velvet cuffs and a white fox fur stole. (more…)

From Craig Calcaterra (Via Hardball Talk):

A source close to Andy Pettitte tells me that there is a “very strong possibility” that Pettitte is going to pitch in 2011.  He is doing his usual preseason workouts and has had no physical issues thus far.

Moreover, the source tells me that Pettitte’s hesitation to confirm that he is coming back for the upcoming season is in no way connected to the Roger Clemens trial, which was something that many had speculated about.

I always had the feeling Andy would return to the Yankees at some point this year. I’m well aware of his dedication to his family, but the man is 38 years old and still has stuff left in the tank. It would be a different story if he was well into his 40′s and wasn’t pitching very well. The guy has plenty of years after his playing career to spend time with his family. When all of his buddies are down in Tampa getting ready for the season…don’t you think Andy is going to want to come back? For the last 20 years, pitching for the New York Yankees organization (and the Astros) is all he’s ever known. It’s not easy for these players to just give up the game.

It’s not exactly what you would call news, but here you go:

From TMZ:

The day after the New York Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs, Alex Rodriguez partied at a Miami nightclub with someone who is no stranger to playoff failure … LeBron James.

————————————————————————-

The two kicked it at the grand opening of the Arkadia at the Fontainebleau Hotel on Saturday night to attend Drake’s 24th birthday party.

Spies inside the club tell us both A-Rod and LeBron partied until 1:00 AM — and were each seen drinking Grey Goose La Poire vodka.

Since they’re each worth roughly a bazillion dollars — who do you think pays for drinks?

From Jon Heyman:

The Yankees plan to bring back manager Joe Girardi at a raise, no matter what some fans may say about his reliance on his ever-present binder. He is well-liked by Yankees honchos Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine and Brian Cashman. Girardi hasn’t been great in the ALCS, though, as he got greedy by staying too long in Game 4 with A.J. Burnett, who has been brutal and was pitching on 17 days’ rest. Burnett should have been removed after five very good innings, rather than be left in to try to pitch out of a sixth-inning jam.

I think we all knew this day was coming. The front office loves him, and that’s that.

Hank Steinbrenner

Photo Credit: Uli Seit of the NY Times

A Hank Steinbrenner sighting. Hank attended a news conference for Hanks’ Yanks, which is the 18-and-under team that he sponsors.

In his first public appearance since the death of his father, George, on July 13, Steinbrenner, 53, said that the direction of the professional franchise would not change with his father gone: winning comes first, always, as it had when George was the principal owner. He also made a not-so-daring prediction that the Yankees would make the playoffs, but he declined to discuss the future of Manager Joe Girardi, whose contract expires after the season.

“It’s always going to be the same,” Steinbrenner said in a brief meeting with reporters. “We play to win. We do what we have to do to win. We don’t make a lot of money because of revenue sharing, and we don’t shy away from paying salaries.”

Reggie Jackson was considered to play the role of Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Tyra Banks dines at NYY Steak. “Tyra Banks having a model-appropriate dinner of “water, watermelon salad and shrimp cocktail” at NYY Steak at Yankee Stadium.”

Former Yankees manager, Joe Torre, was apparently approached about buying part of the LA Dodgers.  “I get people who make all kinds of suggestions all the time, and especially with the mood of everything going on around here right now it’s not surprising,” said Torre.

On the A-Rod/Diaz relationship:

And though skeptics claimed Diaz’s relationship with Alex Rodriguez was just a fling, it turns out they’re well-matched for each other.

An insider told press, “They met at the right time — they’re in tune with each other and ready for a serious commitment. Cameron love that Alex is hard-working, intelligent and sexy. For her, it’s the whole package.”

“She tells dirty jokes, drinks beer and can hold her own discussing just about any sport. Alex fell in love with her because she’s one of the guys, but can turn on the sex appeal and femininity too.”

Dan Cunnigham’s daily routine. Cunnigham is the head groundskeeper at Yankee Stadium.
