The final pieces of old Yankee Stadium came down today, and there is nothing left but rubble. The Gate 6 stairs tower and ticket booths were the last pieces to go. All that’s left now is the cleanup. It will be interesting to see what it will look like a few months from now, and what will take it’s place. This concludes the demolition coverage of old Yankee Stadium. Good Bye, old friend.

Why not use the site as a large parking lot designated for tailgating?
@Dave – parkland used by the neighborhoods surrounding the New Yankee Stadium was taken by the city and Yankees to build the NYS. As part of that acquisition, the Yankees and city promised to turn the land the old YS sat on into parkland to replace that taken for the NYS.
The new parks were to have been built already, but I do not believe they’ve been started yet. The city is claiming funding is tight (which is probably is)… I think it’d be a darn good idea if the main beneficiary of this whole deal, George Steinbrenner, were to take responsibility for the new parks since it is his stadium the old parks were wiped out for.

Doesn’t look much different demolished than it looked when it was there! Give the new Yankee Stadium about five years and it will have that urine smell like the old dump used to have…

I have a question about the demolition. Was the pillar of captains painting moved from the Lou Gehrig room before the demolished the stadium?
