Do Yankee fans really care if the players on the diamond use steroids? I know a lot of you are going to say you do, but the players who have been caught seem to have been totally forgiven and everyone has moved on. Am I right?
Andy Pettitte admitted that he used HGH. Giambi admitted to taking performance-enhancing drugs during his career. And Alex Rodriguez admitted to using banned substances from 2001 to 2003. Pettitte is still a fan favorite in New York and still remains a beloved Yankee. Giambi was loved by the media and was well liked by his teammates. A-Rod went from rock bottom to the top of the city in a year, and gained a lot more support from the fans after his unbelievable postseason. There’s also Roger Clemens, who we all know took banned substances but he just won’t admit it. I guess you can say he’s the only one we really haven’t forgiven because he hasn’t admitted it.
A lot of Yankee fans bring out the heat on other players for cheating the game, but when it comes to their own team..they defend them.

Fans of every team do that. I support my team.
I don’t think I’d ever really defend a player who took PEDs, but I also don’t think I’d completely ostracize a player who owned up to his mistake. Cheaters ran rampant through baseball during the steroid era, and the blame, in my eyes, goes almost entirely on major league baseball for not doing anything about it and sweeping it under the rug. I have more ill-will towards the league than the individual players.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t support those players on your team, but a lot of people treat opposing players on different teams differently..when these guys did things just as bad.

I can’t understand why certain players get persecuted for using substances that were LEGAL at the time they were using them.
It’s like making cigarettes illegal and then condemning me because I used to smoke back when they were legal.
I see what you guys mean, but honestly I’m still a fan. Of course I’m going to treat players on my team better. I don’t expect fans of other teams to forgive my players, nor should they expect me to forgive theirs.
Just my two cents anyway.
I think any player who comes forward and tells the truth about his steroid use gets my respect ( for what ever that’s worth). I suppose, that if I were told that there is something I could take that might give me the edge to either make the big leagues, or, maybe hit stardom : I’m not sure I would pass it up; so perhaps I can forgive the fall. Roger Clemmens, or Barry Bonds, or the list of others who may have used and have not come forward, or denied their use, or players I suspected have used; I have no respect for…even if they are on my team. I might root for them to perform, but I always secrectly root that they will come clean as well.
Of course I’m still a fan of these guys. I just think they all need to be treated the same way…especially when it comes to Hall of Fame candidacy.

Hall of fame candidacy is a totally different, and much more complicated, animal that I won’t even get into!
